Arizona’s Sen. Katie Hobbs Should Not Make Statements / Promises She Cannot Keep

What could take so long for Arizona Democrats to sign off on a letter stating they do not support a recall against one of their own colleagues?

It is no wonder the Democratic voting bloc is in “last” place here in our State of Arizona with independent registered voters surpassing the Republican voting block in 2013 putting the Democrats in 3rd place.  I believe the Democratic voting bloc is in 3rd place because of poor leadership.  The Arizona Democratic Party should learn from the “unified front” strategy their counterpart has been successful with.   We saw with horror how Democrats distanced themselves from President Obama during the 2014 elections, and if they don’t have any faith in their own Party leadership then how do they expect key swing independent voters to put trust in them?

Arizona tax payers are tired of seeing our taxes being wasted on frivolous recall(s).  Don’t get me wrong, I support doable and just recalls on discriminatory lawmakers as was the case when several walks of life and a broad coalition effort recalled former Arizona Sen. Russell Pearce.  It took Jerry Lewis, a moderate Mormon lawmaker of Mesa, Arizona, to oust the more extreme one even though the moderate Mormon hypocritically ended up supporting Mitt Romney for President in 2012 who held similar immigrant self deportation views Pearce held.

That said, I never supported ideas circulating in Arizona for a recall against Arizona lawmaker Catherine Miranda.  I do not agree with all of her political views, however, her political views are not so extreme to me that it should warrant wasting tax payer dollars on a recall.

Arizona’s (D) Sen. Katie Hobbs told members of the Chicano/Latino community and caucus that she would facilitate a letter acknowledging they would not support a recall against (D) Rep. Catherine Miranda.  Hobbs assured the caucus a letter signed by all  — but to no avail.  Make no mistake, I contacted Katie Hobbs two times in writing and she has not responded to my questions. So I have no idea if she will follow through with what she told the caucus.

As a tax payer I want to ensure wasted tax payer dollars will not be spent on a frivolous recall against a moderate politician.  We have watched non profit organizations accepts hundreds of thousands of dollars on failed recall(s) with nothing to show for, and we want to tie loose ends before the end of this year.

Hobbs is busy, organizers and activists are busy — we are all busy, however, politicians need to understand why we equate them to car salesmen, and much of it has to do with not following through with what they say to begin with.

Social Justice For Rumain Brisbon Letter To Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garza

December 9, 2014

City of Phoenix
Police Chief Daniel Garcia
620 W Washington St.
Phoenix, AZ 85003
(602) 262-7626

Subject: Arizona Law Enforcement Excessive Force Concerns / Homicide

Dear Police Chief Garcia:

I began the facebook event in support of Justice for Rumain Brisbon with regard to the rally held at Space Park in downtown Phoenix with other community leaders.  We were happy with the diverse protestors that resulted in a peaceful and civil disobedience protest.

I was happy when you stated your department would not tolerate racial profiling in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on SB 1070 (anti-immigrant / anti-brown) law.   I hope you will be fair and instrumental with regard to the outcome of this wrongful death situation involving Rumain Brisbon.  Even though  columnist Laurie Roberts of Arizona Central wrote a scathing story about you when you decided to run a tight ship and fire law enforcement officer Craig Tiger (whose job was on the line when he committed a DUI), I believe you made the right decision that causes me to think you are fair instead of toeing the stereotypical cronyism line.  As a former member of the law enforcement community, I believe police officers should be held accountable for homicide(s) since they are supposed to enforce the law and commit to safety.

In my view, nobody should be killed for delivering food to their family.

That said, I am asking your office to look into aggressive misconduct of the Phoenix police officer who fatally shot Rumain Brisbon.  I believe the officer who shot Rumain was eager to pull the trigger with regard to an unarmed man and he must be used as an example for the nation with a message that essentially states:  Police Chiefs will not tolerate trigger happy police officers in our Nation.

At some point we must stop the wave of trigger happy police officers who are not held accountable – particularly unarmed individuals.  Making an example out of the officer who killed Brisbon would make positive history sending a message that conveys trigger happy officers could get criminally charged for wrongful death situations.  Judge Dredd is a fictional character I wish to remain part of fiction as we cannot in good mind support men and women in uniform who act as the law, the judge and the executioner.   Although the Nation has been focusing on the mantra: all black lives matter, I would like to focus on “all lives matter” since whites, reds, yellows and browns have lost their lives across the Nation due to police excessive force.

Finally, we are asking your office to terminate the officer who shot Rumain Brisbon because we believe he is unfit and unsafe to carry out responsible and safe police duties.  Public trust and safety is imperative right now. We pray your office will assist that could help restore Arizona’s law enforcement image and public trust with your guidance and/or leadership. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Arizona Community Reaction to Death Of Rumain Brisbon Shot By Phoenix PD

Arizona Community Reaction to Death Of Rumain Brisbon Shot By Phoenix PD

By DeeDee Garcia Blase

At the request of Civil Rights Leader Rev. Jarrett Maupin, I began a Rally For Rumain Brisbon Event on Facebook.  The rally is for tonight at 8:00 pm for Rumain Brisbon at Downtown Phoenix Civic Space Park in downtown Phoenix (park with the big net). Reverend Jarrett Maupin Jr. will be speaking with the support of the #BlackBrownCoalition.   It appears so far 250 people are scheduled to appear at Civic Space Park in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The event is going viral on social media and we expect a good turnout at this event where we will follow up by passing out flyers for a POST rally event to be held next Monday.

I believe in due process — not having rogue Judge Dredd law enforcement officers acting as the law, the judge and executioner towards unarmed men and women.  I stand in solidarity with the hurting black community because as a brown woman, we have cried our share of tears when Sheriff Joe Arpaio was essentially responsible for the death of U.S. military Latino veteran Ernest “Marty” Atencio and other mysterious deaths.

Below is feedback we are seeing on social media, and I want to highlight one in particularly where a man of God has cancelled his bible study (see below image) in order to attend and help minister to the hurting.  Thank you Randy Hill, for your support.  We stand in solidarity in the name of justice and fair due process under the United States Constitution.

Those of my friends not living in Phoenix, who are tired of this madness please join me in a moment of prayer or silence. It is not about the victim and his behavior but the culture of violence lack of accountability and the seeming unspoken approval by the State, Local and National leaders that killing citizens is OK with the police as Judge and Jury. It has become too rampant.

Farmer Making Hasty Get Away Stealing Alfalfa Bales From Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit Camp?

View south over the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit Camp where hay bales of the south wall were stolen. The sweat lodge in the upper right along the road had all of the hay bales surrounding it stolen.  Photo by Gary Dorr

Unbelievable! We are raising awareness to this farmer in a semi-truck allegedly making a hasty get-away when confronted on taking Alfalfa Bales from Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit camp.

Here is their presser:

Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit Camp near Ideal, SD: In a surprising move of boldness and lack of regard for treaty and property rights, a farmer allegedly stole 29 of the 1,500 lb alfalfa bales from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit Camp near Ideal, SD this afternoon. Camp resident Leota Iron Cloud attempted to make contact with the semi-truck driver as she was contacting people by phone to make them aware that someone was taking the bales. The driver of the truck made a hasty retreat off the tribal land across an adjacent field. The first bales removed by the farmer and his staff were removed from the barrier protecting the sweat lodges where ceremonies are held at the camp. The second series of thefts occurred at the tipi area where several more bales were taken from the south side of the encampment. The tribal police, Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Tripp County sheriff were notified as well as the South Dakota highway patrol.

The criminal act of taking bales rightfully owned by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and located on Tribally-owned land, held in trust by the United States Federal Government, was witnessed by Iron Cloud, one of the camp residents. The farmer stole bales that were taken from another piece of tribally-owned land that did not have a lease. The bales were confiscated because the land did not have a lease.

When contacted through the Winner Dispatch a person identified as Tasha indicated that the Tripp County Sheriff’s office passed the investigation off to The Rosebud Sioux Tribal Police. This is an investigation into the theft of tribal owned property from trust land which is a Federal Offense.

Since this is a Federal Offense which involves a Non-Indian offender against an Indian Tribe this investigation bears investigative action by the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Police and the United States Attorney’s Office.

Section 1163 of Title 18 USC makes embezzlement, theft, criminal conversion, and willful misapplication of any of the moneys, funds, credits, goods, assets or other property belonging to any tribal organization a crime. It is a felony if the amount taken exceeds $1,000, and is subject to imprisonment for a maximum of 5 years, a fine pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 3571 which cannot exceed $250,000, or both. The value of the bales stolen from the grounds of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit Camp on December 2, 2014, combined with transportation costs and overhead is approximately $5,000. A non-Indian is also subject to this law.

It is no mistake that this is a criminal act of the highest degree, far removed from the civil argument over the loss of unleased crops from almost a year ago. The unleased crops themselves presented a case of Trespass. The bales were seized and returned to the tribe under authority of 25 CFR 162.106. Section 162.106 (a) of this Federal Regulation specifically states If an agricultural lease is required, and possession is taken without an agricultural lease by a party other than an Indian Landowner of the Tract we [BIA] will treat the unauthorized use as a trespass. Unless we have reason to believe that the party in possession is engage in negotiations with the Indian landowners to obtain an agricultural lease, we will take action to recover possession on behalf of the Indian landowners.

The farmer alleges that the bales are his crop from last year; however, he had not leased the land, and this shows that this is clearly a pre-meditated act of theft of tribal property which was located on tribal trust land at the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Spirit Camp. The farmer has taken the bales to his own property which is located 7 miles away from the Spirit Camp.

This story will be updated as the investigation into the felony act of stealing from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe continues to develop.

California Superintendent Joe Jaconette Participates In Denying Free Lunch to Child / Mother Domestic Violence Victim

The buck stops with the superintendent…

We know that the Orinda Union School District Superintendent Joe Jaconette has been in a lot of hot water before in light of making sure a complaint filed by one of their own teachers via Kristen Nielson never got heard.   Nielson wrote the reason for leaving was exhaustion.  She was tired of a superintendent who does not put teachers first.

But Superintendent Joe Jaconette is in hot water again for his utter disregard for the concern and safety of a 7 year old little girl.  According to the Mercury News:

Days before kicking a second grader out of the district for living outside its boundaries, the Orinda Union School District twice denied the Latina girl access to its free lunch program while recognizing that she lived in the city.   …  The school district hired a private investigator who instead determined last month that Vivian lived in her grandmother’s Bay Point house. School officials sent a letter kicking her out but reversed their stance a day after the Bay Area News Group ran an article about her situation.

The absolute worst part of this story involves the mother of this precious seven year old little girl where her mother was hiding their address in light of filing a domestic violence restraining order against her ex.

Adding salt to injury, we were disgusted in learning that Lozano Smith’s attorney via Harold Frieman essentially justified the schools’ position denying the little girl a free lunch when he said:

“In general, free and reduced lunch applications are considered on their own merits, not directly related to any residency issues,” attorney Harold Freiman said.

If that were the case, why didn’t the domestic violence restraining order render any merit with Harold Frieman of Lozano Smith?  We would like to see Lozano Smith’s Attorneys at Law reprimand Harold Frieman else stop with their pride in representing a fair educational setting in public schools.

But the icing on this cake has to do with a woman by the name of Loreen Farrell who prides herself on 30 years of experience.  This is Orinda’s tax payers as work, folks, where Farrell should have conducted her due diligence involving a domestic violence abuse victim and her daughter.

According to the San Jose Mercury News:

The district first refused Vivian’s free lunch in an Oct. 6 letter written by Loreen Farrell, the district’s business services director, who also wrote the girl’s residency dismissal letter.

That is your tax dollars at work, people.  Harold Freiman of Lozano Smith, Loreen Farrell, Superintendent Joe Jaconnette and the private investigator they hired to chase a little girl around should all belong in the Hall of Shame.

If you are disgusted in with this school wasting tax payer dollars with a private investigator to chase the child to her address but denied this young 7 year old little girl the free lunch program, please send the Fiscal Advisory Committee a note expressing your disgust.  Some of the emails can be found here. Members include of the Fiscal Advisory Committee include:  Nathan Anthony,  Nolan Hornbuckle,  Jan Coe, Shauna Simmonds, Bobby Glasser,  Julie Rossiter,  Denise Tuemmler,  Colleen Sullivan,  Ron Langer,  Loreen Farrell,  and Ken Gallegos.

Sin verguenza.

Mexican American Radio Show Host Sets Record Straight Holding Abraham Paulos Accountable

We have always been for reasonable legal immigration reform.  One thing we will not stand for is for someone like Abraham Paulos believing he speaks for the majority of the hurting community.  Indeed the largest community being hurt are those of Mexican descent as most of those deported are Mexicans. That said, we have our very own Carlos Galindo who is a Mexican immigrant — now American voting citizen setting the record straight as he exposes those who have no idea how they harm immigration reform.

Several of us DO NOT want immigrant felons in our nation.  We cannot risk those who kept their noses clean and who did not commit felony crimes, and we do not agree with Abraham Paulos’ ideas.  His “welcome the felons” affects those of Mexican descent, and our indigenous brothers and sisters from El Salvador to Uruguay and/or those who do not benefit from Cuban amnesty.

President Barack Obama has used his executive order authority that affects AMERICAN BORN children and their families …. he did what he could and if these #TeaDREAMers and Abraham Paulos feel so strongly about immigrants who have felony records … then perhaps they should go and beg the GOP for felony forgiveness because they are barking up the wrong tree with Democrats to this regard. The rest of us will support REASONABLE immigration policies.

If you want to know the pulse of immigration, we implore you to tune in to the Carlos Galindo show via http://tunein.com/radio/La-Mejor-FM-1400-s2978/

Miranda nominates Carl Hayden High School’s robotics team for national award
Team will receive Award of Excellence on Dec. 8

Catherine Miranda

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Next week, the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators will present the Award of Excellence in Education to a group of Carl Hayden High School students who won a prestigious robotics competition a decade ago, edging out college students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Rep. Catherine Miranda, D-Phoenix (District 27), serves as the organization’s vice president of policy and recently nominated the robotics team for the award.

“This victory deserves continued celebration because the story still inspires students both in Arizona and across the country,” Miranda said. “I want to commend this team for its dedication and innovation.”

The team members were also featured in the documentary “Underwater Dreams” earlier this year, and a feature film about the competition is scheduled to be released in January.

The team will receive the award during NHCSL’s 12th National Summit of Hispanic State Legislators in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Dec. 8.

Native American Indigenous Coalition Filing FCC Complaints Regarding Derogatory “Redskins” Name

Brave #ChangetheName protestors at today’s game in Indianapolis.

Members of Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry (EONM) began an event today during the Washington “Redskins” and Indianapolis Colts NFL game that is sparking FCC complaints against the derogatory term “Redskins.”  Here is the link to file an FCC complaint against the offensive and derogatory term:  http://apps.fcc.gov/cgb/fcc475BConf.cfm.

You can hear the game online here: http://www.espn980.com/ and it is also heard on FOX network WXIN (Indianapolis). So far Jacqueline Keeler has been diligent with documenting the below times she heard the “R*dskins” obscene word during A.M. Pacific Times.  Keeler is Navajo and Yankton Dakota, and this woman warrior was the first person to file the FCC complaint against this derogatory term.

As a Chicana activist, I take into consideration how the derogatory term of “wetback” is used against us here in Arizona.  I never understood why the bigots refer to the indigenous as “wetbacks” because we are actually  native to this land before genocide and Manifest Destiny.  In fact, we weren’t the ones who came here on the Mayflower boat.  Therefore, we stand in solidarity with our Native American brothers and sisters in an effort for Washington to eradicate the “Redskin” name and we are filing FCC complaints and hope to send reinforcements to our Native fellow men an women.  We implore Xicanos to file an FCC complaint here: http://apps.fcc.gov/cgb/fcc475BConf.cfm

TeaDREAMers losing more allies for disrespectful heckling towards President Obama

Another Chanclaso in order…

TeaDREAMers losing more allies for disrespectful heckling towards President Obama

Posted by Somos Independents

It’s a well known fact there are a few DREAMers who were hijacked by the Republican Party.  We call them “TeaDREAMers” for pushing the Republican Party agenda … never mind the 2012 anti-immigrant platform adopted by the Republican National Committee in 2012 on the eve of their GOP convention that was essentially blessed by Kris Kobach [sarcasm included].

These TeaDREAMers include DREAMACTIVIST.org and cohorts of Mohammad Abdollahi,  [and whom Rep. Luis Gutierrez had to distance himself from for their racist views], DRM Action (a for profit company) with the likes of Erika Andiola downplaying importance of the Latino vote even though she can’t vote herself, and their surrogates.  Our organization asked Jose Antonio Vargas and Gaby Pacheco to take leadership and speak against folks who supported the likes of Mohammad Abdollahi for stating he wanted to hijack comprehensive immigration reform in 2013 but we saw no leadership from the likes of them.

Now we are seeing more backlash from folks we consider allies.

Lack of “DREAM Act” leadership and turning a blind eye leads to heckling and showing utter disrespect for the Office of the Presidency.

Ungrateful TeaDREAMers who find it cute to disrespect the President of the United States and interrupt his immigration speech are getting more backlash from those who are considered immigration allies.  (See below.)
