Please Contribute Funding For Chicano Fine Art Museum In San Antonio

Hosted By  Adan Hernandez

Time:  5:00 pm

Date:  July 11, 2015

Place:  8800 Broadway, San Antonio, Texas

Adan Hernandez (Blood In Blood Out artist) will be on our next Que Onda show (to be aired on the Chicano Radio Network) soon!   For those who may not know, Cheech Marin  picked the talented Adan Hernandez to  be part of his Chicano collection series. We want to help raise funds for Adan’s Hernandez’s dream of re-opening his Chicano art gallery via  El Otro Ojo arte atomico.  Adan has a beautiful collection of his art alongside several other  San Antonio Texas artists. His goal is to hold art gatherings and encourage the Chicano fine arts movement to our youth and to the world.   Art collection from the Movie Blood in Blood out will be displayed and more collections from different movies and themes will be displayed as well. He will have art student tours. Adan is a great person and has a beautiful soul, he is well loved all over the world but cannot launch a Chicano Fine Arts gallery without community support. As an artist, Adan  has given to the community in many ways like volunteering at schools to talk to our kids about growing up in the barrio, and how to avoid gang activity.

If you cannot attend the July 11 event in San Antonion, please contribute what you can to Go Fund Me here.

Chicanos In Heavy Metal Music History To Air Tonight On Chicano Radio Network 7 PM Pacific Time

Chicanos listen to all genres of music to include Heavy Metal!

Tonight at 7:00 pm (Pacific Time) we feature metal Chicano musicians with an experienced musician like Roy Z who has worked with BRUCE DICKINSON (IRON MAIDEN) , Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Sebastian Bach, Axl Rose and more. Tune in by clicking here >>> http://tunein.com/station/?StationId=235787

In fact, Roy Z Ramirez opened up for Carlos Santana‘s Supernatural tour. If you tune in you will find out how Carlos Santana was interested in Roy Z’s “We All Bleed Red” song. After Roy Z‘s interview, we will feature an up and coming (straight up all #CHicano metalcore band) with MIRRORS. You get to hear Daniel Herrera, Danny Fantom, Jaime Alexander Chan Castillo, Carlos Martinez and Daniel Lara explain their influences … how Mexican American Chicano families “perceive” metal music, how they get perceived when they perform at metal shows and so forth.

The band members of Mirrors are #DRIVEN.

They are hungry and if you tune in, you will fall in love and understand how hungry they are to break through in #HeavyMetal world. Orale! Tune in here: http://tunein.com/station/?StationId=235787

Roy Z … also known as Roy Ramirez. Roy Z was born in #Pacoima, CA, ( Richie Valens land) but changed his name in the 1980s because “ethnic names were not trendy at the time”. Roy reversed Ramirez and became ‘Roy Zerimar’, though people began calling him ‘Roy Z’ for short. Roy began playing guitar and studying music at a young age, influenced by players such as Peter Green, Uli Roth, Jimmy Page, Frank Marino, Carlos Santana, Michael Schenker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jeff Beck, and Robin Trower.

A regular on the Southern California hard rock scene in the 1980s, Roy played with many bands, including Seventh Thunder, Gypsy Moreno, Royal Flush, Driver, Warrior, and Mike Vescera. In 1991, Roy formed Tribe of Gypsies.

When Bruce Dickinson split with Iron Maiden in 1993, he hand picked Roy and Tribe Of Gypsies members Eddie Casillas (bass), Dave Ingraham (drums), and Doug van Booven (percussion) to complete his solo band. Adding a Latin feel to the metal legend’s distinctive voice, the resulting album Balls to Picasso is a somewhat eclectic affair, ranging from the power ballad “Tears of the Dragon” (which also received a music video) to the doomy rocker “Cyclops”. Although recorded in 1993, the self-titled Tribe of Gypsies debut album did not surface until 1996 when it was finally released on JVC/Victor in Japan. Three more releases followed in quick succession before the band finally toured the U.S. for the first time, supporting Carlos Santana on a handful of dates on the #Supernatural tour.

After the commercial failure of his alternative rock styled Skunkworks album in 1996, Bruce Dickinson re-teamed with Roy on 1997’s Accident of Birth. Also featuring guitarist Adrian Smith (of Iron Maiden), the album was a critical success, winning “Album of the Year” polls in the metal press. The band would follow up strongly with 1998’s The Chemical Wedding, a concept album with a darker feel but equally praised along with Accident of Birth as a fan favorite, even jokingly called by some “The best Iron Maiden album since Seventh Son.”
Roy gained widespread industry acclaim for his work with Dickinson, and in 2000 he was tapped to produce the Rob Halford solo album Resurrection, which featured the duet “The One You Love to Hate” with Dickinson, as well as Helloween’s The Dark Ride. Roy would go on to produce and co-write every Halford album to date as well as taking over on guitar for the departing Pat Lachman in 2003. Roy also re-connected with his former Driver band mate, vocalist Rob Rock, for a series of albums starting with 2000’s Rage of Creation.
Roy and Bruce again teamed up in 2003 to write and record Tyranny of Souls, released on Sanctuary Records. The pair could not find time to write the album, so Roy would send riffs to Bruce, who was on the road with Iron Maiden, and Bruce would write melodies and lyrics. The album was recorded in Roy’s basement studio, and featured session players on drums and bass. Roy himself took a turn on bass for 2 songs – “Believil” and “Power of the Sun.” Vocals for the album were done in less than 2 weeks, with Bruce sleeping on a cot in the studio to maximize time. Dickinson had also been injured during a fall at an Iron Maiden show and was all but unable to stand. The album had to be shelved for more than eight months (later released in 2005), however, when in 2004, Roy got the call to produce and mix Judas Priest’s reunion album Angel of Retribution. Shortly thereafter, Roy was tapped by former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach to produce his 2007 solo album, Angel Down, which included a guest vocal appearance by Guns N’ Roses mainman Axl Rose.

In 2008, Roy and Rob Rock re-activated their long dormant band Driver and released their full-length debut, Sons of Thunder, which included re-recordings of the songs from the band’s 1990 cassette EP. Roy also took part in the Halford reunion and has played guitar alongside “Metal” Mike Chlasciak on all subsequent studio and live releases since, starting with the 2009 Christmas album, Halford III: Winter Songs. Roy has also continued his production work, including Ravenous by Swedish heavy metal band Wolf in 2009 and Brazilian thrashers Sepultura’s twelfth album, Kairos, in 2011.

Roy Z has also worked with Sebatstian Bach and Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses. Roy Z‘s latest music projects have been with the LAST VEGAS and Jupiter Falls.

After Roy Z, we shine the light on an up and coming Arizona metalcore band via MIRRORS. This is an all Chicano metal band where I have been lucky enough to listen to some of their original music. Listeners get to hear when their EP album will launched.

Will Mirrors be the all Chicano Metal band that breaks through in the mainstream?

Perhaps so and time will certainly tell.
